2010 DGR Campaign
ANHLC is launching a national campaign aimed at securing greater eligibility for Deductible Gift Recipiency (DGR) tax endorsement for the Neighbourhood House sector.
At present, fewer than 5% of Victorian Neighbourhood Houses have DGR, and only 7% nationally, primarily because the ATO endorsement process does not allow for the type of services that the sector provides to communities. The vast majority of Neighbourhood Houses would normally be eligible under the Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) criteria, but this requires organisations to undertake direct welfare as a dominant activity, rather than the preventative, social inclusion, community development type activities that our sector proudly engages in.
To address this, ANHLC has been advocating for the inclusion of "prevention" into the Australian Tax Office's DGR criteria - this means legislative changes, supported by Parliament.
This is where you come in...
As an election looms, now is the time to take action. We need EVERY Neighbourhood House to contact their local federal politician, regardless of party, but particularly those in marginal seats, asking for their support.
Please download and read the attached information for details about how you can do this. You will find:
- Instruction leaflet called "Please Help Us to Help You"
- A brief outline of ANHLC's proposal before the federal government titled "Prevention is Better than Cure"
- A list of Marginal Seats
- A list of Greens Senators
- A list of Senators Facing Election
The difference to our sector (and hence to our communities) through having DGR is enormous - access to philanthropic and corporate funding is just the start!
ACT NOW - OUR STRENGTH IS IN OUR COLLECTIVE ACTION!
You can contact ANHLC at any time for further assistance.
Good luck - and don't forget to keep ANHLC and your networker informed about your progress.
